From 3D model to nested sheets

FastNesting reads length, width, and thickness from your 3D solids, then nests rectangular pieces and many non-rectangular outlines, grouped by material and thickness. Each sheet title shows Usage % so you can nest while you still design and reconfigure the product for better material use.

Stock Nesting and leftovers

Nest onto several panel and offcut sizes of the same material and thickness in one run, each with its own quantity. Keep a workshop inventory, and show usable leftovers on the nesting drawing and on the cut list when you want them.

Name parts, grain, and edge banding

Piece Namer assigns numbers, names, grain, quantities, and edge banding (L1–W2) from one dialog, with sheet options per material layer. Group Edit renames and sorts Rhino groups so nesting follows how the shop is organized.

Machining on the cut sheet (PRO)

Perforations, routing channels, and banded edges are drawn in 2D on the nested parts for CNC and assembly reference, with Side A / Side B / X-ray views.

Cut lists, reports, and print-ready stickers (PRO)

PRO exports PDF and Excel cut lists, edge banding summaries, and print-ready PDF stickers on Letter and A4 layouts. Choose report columns, part-label modes, and an optional barcode. Free draws the nesting layout in Rhino.

Runs inside Rhino (Win/Mac)

Works in Rhinoceros 3D — Windows (Rhino 7/8 and Rhino 9 WIP) and macOS (Rhino 8) — with your document units. After nesting, Find Part by Number zooms Rhino to the source solid for that cut-list number.

PDF stickers

Stickers moved from Excel to PDF. Print part labels on four standard sheet layouts for everyday printers: Letter 10 (2×4"), A4 10, A4 18, and A4 24.

Stock Nesting

A new nesting mode that lets you nest onto several panel and offcut sizes of the same material and thickness in one run — each stock row keeps its own size and quantity. You can also build a workshop inventory to keep track of shop material.

Offcuts on layouts and lists

Usable leftover pieces now appear on the nesting drawings and on the cut lists if you want.

Clearer everyday UI

Settings, dialogs, and day-to-day workflow polish so the plugin is easier to scan and use.

Targeted nesting refinements for better everyday layouts. In Settings you can choose the nesting layout origin (starting X and Y in Top View). Nesting diagrams in Rhino and PDF show Usage % and Parts on each panel title. In the FastNesting menu the item is now Find Part by Number (same command as before).

A FastNesting menu on the Rhino menu bar covers Nesting, Settings, Group Edit, Find Part by Number, Clean, and License—the same commands as the docs Command reference. Clearer warnings when panel faces are not planar (warped or bowed solids), so odd length and width readings are easier to catch before nesting. A Settings option groups parts by Length/Width/Thickness after display rounding—the same precision as Piece Namer—and is on by default. Flexible edgeband now supports Custom thickness like rigid. Panel Parameters uses Part Oversize labels aligned with report Oversize (OL/OW). Optional edgebanding contingency lets you add an extra percent to estimated F/R length when you need margin. PDF PARTS and PANELS SUMMARY tables use the same grid style as the cut list.

FastNesting now runs on Rhino 9 WIP, so you can keep nesting while you explore the next Rhino. Cut-list reports let you choose which columns appear, so PDF and Excel stay focused on what your shop actually uses. Stickers can include a barcode for quicker identification on the floor, and PRO users can add optional Notes on parts—turned off by default in Settings—when they need job or shop comments. Dialogs and themes are clearer across Settings, license, and everyday workflow screens. Machining drawings follow your model more closely on tricky outlines, channels, and organic shapes, while Side A, Side B, and X-ray keep working as you already know them.

A new Auto option (grain off) tries more layouts and keeps the best, with live progress you can stop with Esc. Mult lets you nest more copies without duplicating parts in Rhino, and Show3DPieceNumbers_FastNesting jumps to any source solid by its cut-list number. Machining is read in 2D for face and back, and parts with the same size but different machining can get distinct numbers. Dialogs and messages are refreshed, new Free users get a welcome, and PRO seat activation can now free up a machine in the same flow, with a computer alias on each machine for support.

Edgeband presets can use 0 mm (rigid and flexible) so you keep BOM and totals without shrinking finished nest sizes. Machining is easier to read with Side A / Side B and X-ray modes; mirrored parts no longer mirror the wrong 2D. Pro users can optionally add piece-number dots on source 3D solids from Settings after nesting. Overall nesting, drawing, and part-list workflows are smoother with fewer geometry surprises.
